Since 2012, our fleet has relied on high tech fuel economy testing methods developed from racecar engineering. It has found us millions of dollars in fuel savings with excellent payback. Developed by Daryl Bear, a racecar and test engineer, these test methods helped us do what other methods could not; make very precise decisions on fuel savings. The methods adopt the technology and advanced engineering methods used in IndyCar, NASCAR and Formula 1 racing, and the outcome is vastly superior to other methods used in the trucking industry.

Next Generation of Fuel Economy Testing

Until now, the trucking industry has relied on very antiquated test methods that used removable fuel tanks and a simple weigh scale. As a fleet, we used those techniques many times and found answers unreliable and decisions risky. In 2015, the trucking industry officially departed from those old test methods, admitting what we already knew; they were unreliable.


The MVTS methods use on-road testing, with actual fleet equipment and sophisticated sensors and data analysis adopted from racing. They also utilize the newly uncovered science of fuel consumption. Like all vehicles, trucks operate according to the laws of science, and while other test methods have ignored this science, MVTS methods rely on it extensively. It is a new generation of fuel economy testing−one that works very well. We know because we’ve seen it firsthand in the form of real world savings. It has also been a game-changer in how we approach fuel savings since it is now very easy to get reliable answers and make smart decisions.

Easy, Fast, Real World Answers

trucks2These test methods are easy to execute because the carrier supplies the equipment (one or two trucks and trailers) and drivers, and our engineering team does the rest. We install the test equipment, manage the test, then analyze and present the results. We also continue working with you, supporting your decision-making process.

Testing is fast; it typically only takes 2-3 hours to get results that can be used to calculate answers for your fleet’s operations. It all comes down to our grasp on the science and ability to understand the specifics of your fleet with regard to duty cycle, equipment, and operations. No other test methods can do this, which is how we provide real world cost analysis data for carriers.

How We Test

fleet2As a carrier, you provide vehicles and drivers, and we do the rest. We typically test near your terminal on a public road or use a private track. Our testing can be done almost anywhere, any time of year. Multiple tests are very fast and easy once the vehicles are set up, and consecutive tests require only 2-3 hours. With our fleet, it is common for us to test 15 to 20 items in one week. The only staff you require are drivers and personnel to make any vehicle modifications. We can also provide those if needed.
